Most Frequent Questions and Answers
Can I put things in my car before it’s hauled away?
No. Carrier insurance doesn’t cover any items other than your vehicle. Also, since the drivers must stop and rest, it’s not a good idea to have any valuables visible in your vehicle because it encourages theft.
Will anyone drive my car after it’s been put on a carrier?
The driver may need to rearrange vehicles as some are dropped-off and others are loaded. In these instances, the driver will move your vehicle. It should not be driven for any other purposes, except if its car carrier needed a repair. It would then be loaded onto another carrier so it could continue to its destination.
How do I find out when my car will arrive?
Once the estimated time of arrival can be assessed you will be notified by the carrier.
How do I find out where my car is right now?
You can contact the carrier directly for progress updates.
Can I ride in the car while it’s being transported?
No. Carrier insurance doesn’t cover anything other than your vehicle.
Can I get access to my car while it’s being transported?
Drivers will not make unscheduled stops for owners to access their vehicles. However, it may be possible to access your vehicle at a scheduled stop under special circumstances.
How do you determine the cost of shipping my car?
Costs are calculated according to the type of carrier you select (such as open or enclosed), vehicle type, shipping demand, distance and weather conditions.
Can I change the drop-off location of my car once it’s in transit?
As long as its within the same general area it is typically not an issue. However, if it obscures from the original intended auto shipping route and destination it most likely will not be possible.
What if I’m not available when the driver comes to get my vehicle?
It’s possible to designate another person for vehicle pick-up and drop-off authorization. However, if no one meets the driver, the car will not be hauled and a service fee will be applied to your account. Additionally, if there is no one available to accept the delivery the carrier will have to find a storage facility and you would incur all fees (which can be expensive so please ensure someone is available).
Is it ok if my car is leaking fluids when it’s transported?
No. If your vehicle is leaking fluids it should be remedied prior to transport as it could cause damage to other vehicles if located above. Please ensure your vehicle is in good working order prior to shipping it.
Does my car have to be running to be transported?
No. The driver can use a winch to move your car on and off the carrier. However, this ships at a premium rate.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
You should always request a current insurance document from the carrier. Each carrier is required to carry cargo insurance to protect the vehicle once loaded onto the truck.
If there are damages, how soon will my vehicle be fixed?
If there is damage to your vehicle it should be noted on the Bill of Lading at the time of delivery. You would then work with the carrier to resolve the damage.
My car is a manual transmission. Are your drivers trained in how to drive it for loading purposes?
Yes. Carrier drivers are trained to handle a variety of vehicles, ranging from imports to exotics to classic cars.
